Needles in a haystack

Updated: Aug 28

Packages lost at logistics centres is a major issue when looking at numbers of packages lost, even if the percentages might not look as alarming. The volumes are enormous!

We're not talking about theft after delivery, but packages lost in transit.

But, at Blue Cromos, we can do something about it.

What am I searching for?

Staff trying to retrieve lost packages regularly face an awkward challenge: What are they looking for? Package handling is all based on the bar codes applied to labels. What the package actually looks like is an unknown to them. Hopefully, they have an idea of dimensions and weight. But was it yellow, brown or green? Cardboard, wrapping paper or plastic?

That's one of the challenges we address with isTrax – Retrieve.

We drastically reduce the time to find lost packages by enabling package retrievers to know what to look for. No more wasting time, randomly rummaging through piles of packages to check labels. At least not until you've visually identified a likely candidate.

Speed. Less time and money lost. Relieved, happy customers sooner.

How we do it

At the arrival at the logistics centre, an advanced camera automatically takes a photo of the package (or several) while a label reader scans the bar code. Our system creates a Digital twin of the package, including the photo of the physical package. If the package later is lost, the picture is retrieved and provided to retrievers to make it easier (=faster) to track and find.

It might sound self-evident, but actually takes advanced technology to handle with the extreme volumes of packages passing through logistics centres of today.

There's more!

We don't stop there, of course. It would be a waste to create a digital twin only to use it to find lost packages, wouldn't it?

  • We can track the journey of packages through the logistics centre, either integrating with existing bar code readers or with dedicated readers

    • To identify where lost packages were last detected

    • To register when and with which vehicle lost packages were dispatched (and for which route)

    • We can identify "disappearance hot-spots" to improve handling or detect theft

    • We can identify hot-spots also for damaging of packages, through additional cameras; in-flow, at exit points and other points of interest

  • Data can be retrieved real-time, through automatic, regular, reports or through dedicated analysis

    • Which can be used to optimise and improve systems and processes

How much would you be able to save through finding lost packages faster?

How many more happy customers would you create?

How much could you earn through optimising your handling process?

Packages lost at logistics centres is a major issue when looking at numbers of packages lost. Luckily we can make it easier.
Imagine having to search for a package in that store, only knowing the text and barcode on the label and, hopefully, the measurements of the package!
